‘Caribbean Currents’

Caribbean Currents is a London wide project conceived as a creative response to the ideas and themes explored in the Amazon to Caribbean exhibition at the Horniman Museum, Forest Hill, London.

This project for Londoners of Caribbean heritage linked the Horniman with four other museums - The Cuming Museum, Southwark; Wandsworth Museum; The Grange Museum, Brent; and Newham Heritage Service.

Working in partnership with the arts organisation Cloth of Gold, participants created works of art that explored issues of identity amongst contemporary Londoners of Caribbean heritage.

Objects from the Horniman collections were used as inspiration for their work. The Southwark based community project additionally used objects from the Cuming Museum as their inspirational objects.

Cloth of Gold Artists worked with different community groups from Southwark, Wandsworth, Brent and Newham in partnership with the four local museums.
The participating community groups were;

Carl Campbell Dance Company 7, Southwark
Servol Community Trust, Wandsworth
West Indian Self Effort (WISE), Brent
Stonebridge Area Youth (SAY), Brent
Dominica UK Association, (DUKA), Newham

The project was funded by the London Hub and managed by The Horniman Museum.
